Chelation IV Therapy

The Chelation IV contains many nutrients and vitamins, but the main active ingredient is Edetate Calcium Disodium EDTA which is the chelating agent. This removes from the body heavy metals, such as mercury and lead. It’s primary focus has been for mercury and lead poisoning, or heavy metal toxicity, which may be found in patients who work in an industrial environment or eat a lot of fish, known to contain mercury. After Chelation IV Therapy, the metals pass harmlessly through your body and are discharged in your urine hours later. Patients will be required to have lab tests in order to qualify them for chelation therapy, measure any toxicity in their bodies and ensure that the Chelation Therapy is safe for that patient. This is done with blood test or urine test which determines the levels of heavy metals that can cause toxicity.

Chelation Side Effects

Chelation can cause side effects such as: nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, loss of appetite, loose stool, headache. Chelation can be dangerous for patients with low blood calcium (hypocalcemia).

There are other uses for chelation and some promote the use of this IV for removal of plaque from arteries by removing calcium. Others claim that EDTA Chelation can help with Alzheimer’s disease. We do not know if this works to really treat atherosclerosis as it is controversial and lacks scientific proof. Nevertheless there are those that believe it does work on heart disease and some neurological diseases.
